Penelope’s Sisters
We are a group of textile and mixed media artists who met while studying at Telford College, Edinburgh. After leaving college, we continued to meet to share skills and support one another, as we mostly work on our own.
We use many different materials. Wool becomes felt; plants become paper, threads and strings become woven pictures; fabrics are collaged; glass, plastic or beads become jewelry. Driftwood, wire, metal, feathers can all be put to use.
Penelope, in Greek mythology, wove while Odysseus was away at war. Having reluctantly agreed to marry another on completion of her work, she unraveled it every night. Hence the name, Penelope’s Sisters!
Unlike Penelope, however, our work develops
with time.
Penelope's Sisters is a female collective of Scottish, contemporary artists. See Penelope's Sisters' artwork here in our own galleries.
